Art & Support Files

Mame32's flexible GUI framework allows for some beautiful customization; including font color, icons, screenshot art, and background images.  The official site for these files is Mame32QA.  For examples of some of the various permutations, take a look at the Mame32QA Gallery:  The following files are used for this customization.

*       Icons.zip : This file contains icons for every game in Mame32 and the folder view on the far left.  Place it in the \mame32\icons folder, it can remain zipped to save slack HD space.

*       Snap.zip : These are a series of files that contain in-game screenshots of every parent game in Mame32.  Download the packs and extract their contents into the \mame32\snap directory. [one of the display modes shown by toggling/clicking on the screenshot area on the far right of the GUI].

*       Titles.zip : These are a series of files that contain title screenshots of every parent game in Mame32.  Download the packs and extract their contents into the \mame32\titles directory. [one of the display modes shown by toggling/clicking on the screenshot area on the far right of the GUI].

*       Marquees.zip : These are a series of files that contain images of the signs that topped arcade machines.  Download the packs and extract their contents into the \mame32\marquees directory. [one of the display modes shown by toggling/clicking on the screenshot area on the far right of the GUI].

*       Bkground.zip : This file contains numerous images that are used as the background for the Mame32 GUI [beneath the game list, behind the screenshot/folder areas]. Download this file and extract its contents into the \mame32\bkground directory. Choose a background image in the Options menu.  To have it rotated randomly on Mame32 launch, toggle the checkbox in the Options • Interface Options menu.

*       Flyers.zip : These are a series of files that contain images of the original promotional material sent to arcade owners when the games came out, exhorting them to buy the games.  Download the packs and extract their contents into the \mame32\flyers directory. [one of the display modes shown by toggling/clicking on the screenshot area on the far right of the GUI].

*       Cabinets.zip : These are a series of files that contain images of the actual arcade machines themselves, showing what they looked like in their native habitat. Download the packs and extract their contents into the \mame32\cabinets directory. [one of the display modes shown by toggling/clicking on the screenshot area on the far right of the GUI].

*       History.dat : This file contains the original game’s designer’s names, and assorted trivia.  Place this file in the \mame32 folder alongside Mame32.exe. [note: history.dat information will only display in screenshot mode, not during flyer/cab/marquee mode].

*       Hiscore.dat : This file facilitates the creation of hi-scores in a large number of Mame32 games. This file is needed if the original arcade game did not maintain its hi-score table after being reset or turned off. Note that this file is an externally supported database, not every candidate game is supported in it.  Place this file in \mame32 alongside Mame32.exe and verify that a \hi directory exists.  This file must be used to get hi scores in most early games.
