I don't see why not, although if I recall, back in the day, the various other popular consoles (ps2, xbox) needed some kind of mod chip installed or some kind of bypass hack to work, since those companies didn't want people playing homebrew content on their machines. So it may be you'll need something of that nature, and I don't know if those things have been done (having not really kept up with the game console scene since the demise of the Sega Dreamcast). Maybe it's time to get to work on one or two? Good luck!

Still, I'm sure Nintendo would be against it and do their darndest to stop it from happening, because they stand to lose money on their Virtual Console service if something like this took off and was actually used (thus they couldn't force people to buy a steady trickle of approved downloadable emulated games). The PS3 can supposedly emulate PS1 and 2 content, so I presume you might be able to use the PS2 emulator stuff on the newer machine. But did anyone ever do anything kaillera related for those systems? The online protocols would be another story entirely, but the emulated games themselves have already been done, and you'd think with the more powerful system they could be better than ever before.

Interesting that you didn't mention the Xbox 360.

Is it because no one take's it seriously because of the red ring of death ? :)

I don't like the 360 either. However, the original xbox (which I do own) had virtually all of the emulators from the PC ported over to it. I've noticed on quite a few of these emulators a netplay switch in the options, but i've never tried it because i've never had my xbox hooked up to the net. Maybe I should investigate further.

It's been ages, but I do have an Xbox 360 now (have had one for the past 4+ years actually). The original was a piece of garbage, but the Slim model fixed the issues that prevented me from caring about the original version. Playstation Network is still way more popular than Xbox Live and it's free, but oh well. I still enjoy this console and it's the last new one I've purchased (unless you count retro remake consoles).

Nobody really knows how long M$ will continue to provide online support for this box, but if you think I won't seriously consider m0dding mine when it finally is officially taken offline, you're crazy. ;)
Wii/Wii U users got screwed over a lot quicker, I hear. No idea about Playstation. Weren't many PS2 games still going strong a few years back online? Then again I don't know if any of that changed after they stopped manufacturing units in 2012.

Then there's the XLink Kai community. I haven't ever attempted it but supposedly any games that have LAN/IPX support (including "system link") can be simulated over the internet to give many dead games back their internet play...

There were indeed a ton of emulated games ported to the 360 and that helped me decide to get it. Sadly though a lot of them were delisted from the digital marketplace (but fans made them available again for download, but you needed a modded system to run any "full version" games... the demos everyone can use though, with just a simple flash drive and file transfer app).

I haven't played a mame game online in ages though, and I'm just now returning to the forums to see things are getting cleaned up around here, for which I am happy. I see that people are still playing the same old fighters as always. I wouldn't mind firing up and playing a campaign of some classic brawler with some friends though, that was really what it was all about for me, or any other cooperative game really.
