I would also like to see mame run as fast as it use to.

The emulator should make no difference.

Good and Fresh news

Postby Berserker » Sun Jan 18, 2004 2:56 pm

Hi there ! Sry for English as usual (I let anthem to make the posts because he is better in writing but I was too excited...)
In my first post I anticipated that "keys dispatch" would be very near.
Well, "the future is now" : yesterday night I had the time, tanks to my ill girl :lilangel:, to finish it.
The next step is to increase the game speed that, as you know, is still slow...but don't worry about that, it's only a question of time (and of ill girl :P )

P.S.: Is there anyone interested in our "name and logo contest" ? I hope that...

More news soon!
Bye

Server

Postby anthem » Sun Jan 18, 2004 9:06 pm

The server side of the project is also coming along. It will be written in java to reach as many platforms as possible in a short amount of time. If there's a desire for it, it may also be ported to C++. At first it will serve only traditional Kaillera games, then our new protocol will be added.

For some reason, I came up with the name, Rush Online.

Well, I just don't know what to say. I am in tears. FINALLY!!!!!! Finally a couple of guys step up to the plate and tackle this project head on! I am more excited than ever over this news! Kaillera needs a swift kick in the ass and j00 guys are providing the boots!

Berserker and Anthem...thank j00 from the bottom of my eternal SOUL for taking up this ambitious project. What I wouldn't give to have a smooth as butter, spamless, nearly lagless kaillera experience.

One thing I'd liek to address however....what I am about to say is going to ruffle some feathers among a few people so here goes:

PLEASE MAKE THIS NEW VERSION BROADBAND *ONLY*!!!

Arcade fighting games demand high speed connections and allowing people with stone age 56k connections to play on this new project would be a grave mistake! Guys...if j00 have a 56K connection, well, I'm sorry but it's time to step out of the dinosaur ages and stup to broadband. Call your local cable or phone company and get either a Cable or DSL line installed. I am on DSL and I cannot tell j00 how many times I've been frustrated seeing my end get bogged down when playing someone on a 56K connection. It SUX!! If everyone had broadband then we would have something equivalent to Xbox Live! The problem with Xbox Live is there aren't any good fighting or old school arcade games, other than Kawaks, which runs smooth but isn;t Xbox Live compatible.

Therefore Anthem and Berserker hear my cries! Make it broadband only! If the 56Kers don't care enough about Kaillera that they are not willing to make the effort to get either a DSL or Cable line installed, then screw 'em. Let them play on THE OLD Kaillera! Anthem I get the feeling you are agreeing with me on this.

Anthem and Berserker...now that I've got that outta the way, how possible do you feel an online version of Mame for Xbox is? Do you think it is possible for you to take your project one step further and create your OWN version of Xbox Live, but only for emulators? That w00d RAAWK!!!

I don't think java performance is that bad on *nix systems. poop the webhost I serve out on is a dual xeon p4.

And for a cool name... Here are some names of different gods of ancient religions...

Mercury- Roman messanger god and commerce God.
Babd Catha- Irish Celtic Goddess of war.
Giobhniu- Celtic God of weaponry.
Manannan- Celtic God of sailors and merchants.

The names and logos are looking great! Keep'em coming!

Isamu: I hear your point about modems, and I do agree with the idea that broadband is pretty much necessary for this type of online play, but regardless, we're going to try to make it as available as possible to everyone, and doing so will not mean sacrificing broadband users' quality of play to those who may not be as lucky.

1) Best not to use the original name in the new name; Christophe can't already be happy people are trying to eclipse his baby

2) I wouldn't use too many pictures from any one given game series; makes it look biased

3) Don't use low-resolution images and blow them up to horrendous sizes; it just doesn't look good.

I'm going to give a try with the name Mithras.

And in all reality, optimizing it for broadband won't make much difference, if at all. Kaillera is bounded by latency and no matter how hard you try, you won't get any less out of a cable modem.
