To play on lan, you will need to make a server. The current kaillera does not support client to client connections.

I'm assuming you are on windows.

To run a server, download this: http://kaillera.com/files/kaillerasrv-0.86-win32.zip ... extract all the files inside it. ... and run the .exe file and keep the console window open that pops up.

To connect to that server from local machine, after you activate kaillera from mame and the server refresh screen shows up, press the stop button if its pinging servers. Click on "Custom IP" button, type in "localhost" in the box and click connect.

To connect from a machine in your local network, do the same as above but this time put in network interface ip address of the server machine on the network connecting the two machines instead of "localhost".

You will only need to host one server.

Ok i already got the server download and when i used local host instead of the hosts ip adress it worked and is the network interface ip adress the same as a pc's normal ip? I can connect to the server on mame32k but when i connect on project64k it just gives me an error message and then quits...

probably not the external one. Go start->Run->"cmd /k ipconfig /all" on your server machine and its usually the "Ip Address" printed next to your lan adapter.

OK atleast i can find the server and start connecting with the computer that the servers running on. but sometimes still after a couple of seconds in the command prompt window it says

Got connection request from *my ip*
client time out while connecting

then (as u probably know) mame32 closes

and with project 64k it just never manages to connect without the time out error
